During lockdown BFI Southbank took the opportunity
to upgrade the stage in their main screen - NFT1.
It had to be wheelchair accessible and, of course, look good.
We discussed the spec with the client, consultants and accessibility advisors.
Plans were produced, re-thought and re-drawn as we sought
to create something that was practical, legal and elegant.
To avoid too long a ramp we raised the floor level to match the first tier.
And we designed a curved stage front to reflect the shape of the auditorium.
The we ripped out the old stage and replaced it with our pre-fabricated design.
