A Theatre Transformed
After 30 years of constant use the time was right for
Roedean Theatre to get some revitalising TLC.
It no longer met the school’s drama needs, it couldn’t accommodate enough of the girls
and, everyone agreed, it looked a bit of a mess.
This upgrade had been under discussion for years but, when it finally came, time was short and it took a period of intense consultation to make sure everything was going to be ready.
Then we had just 4 weeks of the summer holidays to rip everything out…
…and install new tiers, new balustrades and 350 new seats.
And this is how it turned out:
luxurious, practical and highly atmospheric!
There are now 40% more seats facing the stage than before
Elegant high-density stacking chairs can be moved to make way for wheelchairs
A bespoke balustrade has the schools crest at its centre
The balcony was remodelled to offer improved sight lines for all
